Words are hard.


Most college degrees are little more than proof you spent 100k. That’s because college, at least in the U.S., is more of a finishing school than an actual educational institution. It’s not designed to teach you how to work in business or become a psychologist; it’s just there to connect you with the people who can give you a job while also signalling to them that you’re sane enough not to burn the building down.


That said, there are some fields where your degree does matter. For example, if you want to be a social worker, you might want to get a degree in social work — and not, as this woman learned, sociology.
